Cynical
screenwriter Charlie Kaufman has just taken on a new assignment - to adapt
writer Susan Orlean's "The Orchid Thief" into a screenplay, based
on the life of the eccentric John Laroche, an exotic plant collector living
in Florida. While his easygoing twin brother Donald is writing scripts with
ease, Charlie finds himself enduring a perpetual struggle that never seems
to end.

Historical
note: Augustus Raymond Margary (1846-1875) was educated at Brighton
College, England, and in 1874 was chosen to represent the British Embassy
at Pekin due to his knowledge of the language and ceremonial etiquette of
China. His toughness, fitness and exceptional spirit was particularly suited
to the long and arduous journey through China, and he travelled safely until
he reached the town of Manwein, on the Chinese border with Burma. He set out
on February 19th, 1875, but was murdered by a Chinese force the following
day.
